Clean cooling tower fill after a Hydrovida cleaning
North County San Diego · San Marcos

Commercial Water Treatment in San Marcos, CA

San Marcos has grown into a hub for life science, manufacturing and higher education, and those buildings depend on cooling towers, RO and boilers that can't quit. The water feeding them is hard, imported and getting more expensive. Hydrovida keeps that equipment clean and efficient and cuts the water and energy you pay for, with a team based a short drive away in Carlsbad.

What you get

  • An on-site look at your towers, boilers and water systems

San Marcos water, in plain English

Most of San Marcos gets its water, sewer and recycled water service from the Vallecitos Water District, which also serves parts of Carlsbad, Escondido and Vista. Vallecitos buys its drinking water from the San Diego County Water Authority.

Much of that water is treated right here, at the Water Authority's Twin Oaks Valley Water Treatment Plant north of San Marcos. It's a 100-million-gallon-a-day plant that uses submerged membrane filtration and chloramine for disinfection. The plant does a great job making water safe to drink, but it doesn't take out the minerals. Imported Colorado River and Northern California water is still hard and high in dissolved solids when it reaches your building.

That's what builds scale on cooling tower fill and chiller tubes, wears out softener resin and fouls RO membranes. And chloramine in the supply will damage RO membranes if it isn't removed first.

Who we work with in San Marcos

San Marcos is home to Cal State San Marcos and Palomar College, and to business parks full of life science, biotech and manufacturing companies. Labs need RO and purified water that stays in spec. Campuses run central plants with cooling towers, boilers and closed loops. Healthcare and senior living facilities need Legionella control they can document. We work with facilities like these across North County.

How Hydrovida fixes it

For labs and life science, we keep RO systems running with the right pretreatment, chloramine removal and antiscalant, and when membranes fail early, our lab can autopsy one to find out why. For campuses and central plants, we treat cooling towers, boilers and closed loops as one system, with controllers and remote monitoring so problems get caught between visits.

For towers, we test your water and set cycles of concentration so you buy less water without building scale. For Legionella, we write and maintain ASHRAE 188 water management plans and run routine testing. Our chemistry is made by Hydrovida, with NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 certified chemistry options available.

Sewer, recycled water and rebates

Vallecitos runs the Meadowlark Water Reclamation Facility, which recycles wastewater for irrigation, and sends the rest of the district's wastewater to the Encina Water Pollution Control Facility in Carlsbad. If your site has discharge limits on blowdown or process water, we help you stay within them.

Controller upgrades and other water-saving equipment can qualify for water-agency rebates. We help you check what's available for your site before you buy.
