Laboratory Analysis
Our lab isn't a marketing prop — it runs thousands of analyses a year for our own programs and for outside clients seeking definitive answers.
Capabilities
We identify deposits, corrosion products, organics, and unknowns using microscopy, spectroscopy, and chromatography.
- SEM/EDS with element mapping
- ATR-IR for organics and polymers
- GC-MS for volatile and semi-volatile analytes
- Wet chemistry: hardness, alkalinity, silica, metals
Unknown sample analysis
Water is the universal solvent, which means purification processes turn up a near-endless array of unknown compounds. Our lab personnel decipher the chemical composition of those unknowns, so the right chemistry can be applied before a compound forces a costly shutdown or component replacement.
Elemental map imaging
We combine scanning electron microscopy with mapping software to show the spatial distribution of elements across a sample — higher color intensity means higher concentration. It is the fastest way to understand a fouling layer or a complex ion scale.
ATR-IR spectroscopy
Attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy excites the bonds in a sample and measures their vibration as a spectrum. Those bands are a fingerprint for bond type, so we can confirm the identity and purity of a sample against a known standard.
Filtration and coagulation studies
For water headed to reuse or discharge, we bench-test filtration, coagulant dosing, and sludge dewatering to determine the pretreatment an RO system needs and the optimal chemistry to reach the best water quality attainable.
Deliverables
Written report with methods, spectra/imagery, interpretation, and recommended next steps.
Turnaround
Standard 5–7 business days; rush available.
