Commercial Water Treatment in Escondido, CA
Escondido's water is hard and high in dissolved solids, and inland Escondido gets warmer than the coast. That combination builds scale fast in cooling towers, boilers, coolers and RO systems. Hydrovida helps Escondido packing houses, food plants, hospitals and manufacturers keep that scale out, use less water and stay within sewer limits.

What's in Escondido's water
The City of Escondido gets its water from three sources: the Colorado River, Northern California through the State Water Project, and local runoff from its own watershed. Most of it is treated at the Escondido-Vista Water Treatment Plant, which the city owns jointly with the Vista Irrigation District.
The city's 2025 water quality report puts the plant's average hardness at about 215 mg/L, roughly 12.6 grains per gallon, and its average total dissolved solids at about 527 mg/L, with readings as high as 631. That's hard, mineral-heavy water. The more of it your cooling tower evaporates, the faster those minerals concentrate into scale. The water is also disinfected with chloramine, which damages RO membranes if pretreatment isn't right.
Who we work with in Escondido
Escondido is the center of North County agriculture. Avocado groves, nurseries, packing houses and cold storage run coolers, cooling towers and wash water hard during harvest, when a breakdown means lost product. The city is also home to a major regional hospital and medical offices, food and beverage producers, including breweries, and manufacturing along the I-15 corridor. We already work with facilities across North County.
How Hydrovida fixes it
We test your water and set antiscalant, inhibitor and cycles of concentration for Escondido's high mineral content, then confirm it with testing on every visit. Controllers with remote monitoring hold conductivity and chemical feed where they belong between visits, so the tower doesn't scale up during a hot week.
For boilers, we protect tubes and cut blowdown and fuel. For softeners and RO, we test, tune and service equipment so it can keep up with high-TDS water, and our lab can autopsy a failed membrane to show why it failed. For hospitals and any site with a cooling tower, we write and maintain ASHRAE 188 water management plans and run routine Legionella testing. NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 certified chemistry options are available for food and ag applications.
Wastewater, recycled water and rebates
Escondido treats its wastewater at the Hale Avenue Resource Recovery Facility. In 2024 the city dedicated its Membrane Filtration Reverse Osmosis facility, the first in California built solely for agriculture. It turns recycled water into low-salt irrigation water for local growers, mainly avocado orchards, and eases the load on the city's ocean outfall. It's a sign of how seriously Escondido takes salt and discharge.
If your site discharges process water, wash water or tower blowdown to the sewer, we help you control what goes down the drain and stay within your limits. Water-saving upgrades like conductivity and pH controllers may qualify for water-agency rebates, and we help you check what's available before you buy.

Questions
How hard is Escondido's water?
The city's 2025 water quality report shows average hardness of about 215 mg/L (roughly 12.6 grains per gallon) and average total dissolved solids of about 527 mg/L. We test your actual water before setting a program.
Do you work with packing houses and cold storage?
Yes. We treat cooling towers, evaporative condensers, boilers, softeners and wash water, and set programs for peak harvest load.
Can you help with sewer limits?
Yes. We look at blowdown, process and wash water and help you cut what goes down the drain and stay within your limits.
