Commercial Water Treatment in Watsonville, CA
The Pajaro Valley supports a $400 million local agricultural industry, according to the City of Watsonville, and almost all of its water comes out of the ground. That groundwater is overdrafted, and seawater has pushed into coastal wells. For coolers, cold storage, food plants and campuses from Watsonville to Santa Cruz, every gallon saved matters. Hydrovida helps facilities cut water and energy use and keep refrigeration and cooling equipment clean.

What's in Pajaro Valley water
The City of Watsonville serves over 66,000 customers, and most of its water comes from groundwater wells, with only about 10% from local creeks. Those wells draw from the Pajaro Valley Groundwater Subbasin, which the state designates as critically overdrafted. Decades of pumping more than nature puts back have lowered groundwater levels and let seawater intrude into coastal aquifers, raising salinity.
To take pressure off the basin, the city and the Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency built the Watsonville Area Recycled Water Facility, which can produce about 4,000 acre-feet a year of recycled water for coastal farmland. Because the valley has no imported water, local conservation is how the region stays supplied.
For your equipment, groundwater means mineral-heavy makeup water. In evaporative condensers and cooling towers, it concentrates fast and scales coils and fill if cycles and inhibitor aren't right.
Who we work with in the Pajaro Valley and Santa Cruz County
Watsonville and Pajaro are packed with produce coolers, cold storage, freezing and food processing, mushroom and nursery growers, and plug and transplant greenhouses. Up the coast in Aptos and Santa Cruz, colleges, transit and public facilities, senior living communities and office buildings run boilers, cooling towers and closed loops. Coolers run ammonia refrigeration with evaporative condensers. Greenhouses and growing rooms need clean humidification and irrigation water.
How Hydrovida fixes it
For evaporative condensers and cooling towers, we test your water and set inhibitor and cycles to cut bleed without building scale, with controllers and remote monitoring between visits. When condensers or heat exchangers are already scaled, we clean them. For boilers and humidification, we test, service or replace softeners and protect tubes. For hydrocooling, ice and wash water, we help keep water sanitary and surfaces clean to support food safety programs. We write and maintain ASHRAE 188 water management plans and run routine Legionella testing.
Our chemistry is made by Hydrovida, with NSF/ANSI/CAN 60 certified chemistry options available.

Questions
Where does Watsonville's water come from?
Mostly city wells in the Pajaro Valley Groundwater Subbasin, with about 10% from local creeks. The valley has no imported water supply.
What does overdraft mean for my facility?
The basin is critically overdrafted and seawater has intruded near the coast, so saving water helps protect your supply, and salty, mineral-heavy water is harder on equipment.
Do you serve Santa Cruz and Aptos too?
Yes. We serve facilities across Santa Cruz County, including Aptos and Santa Cruz.
Do you work with cold storage and produce coolers?
Yes. We treat evaporative condensers, hydrocoolers, ice systems, boilers and wash water.
What does a free water analysis include?
We test your makeup and system water, review your treatment, softeners, cycles and water bills, and show where you can save water, energy and chemicals. There is no cost and no obligation, and nothing changes until you agree.
